Software Engineer, Infrastructure · Meta

• Worked on the Resource Management pod responsible for capacity management and cost efficiency for large-scale ML model training and training data infrastructure across Meta Ads ML models.
• Designed and implemented an AI-driven tool that evaluates every pipeline configuration change against the owning resource account's capacity before merge, automatically computing the projected capacity delta.
• Built logic to auto-approve configuration diffs that stay within existing capacity and to block those that exceed it until the author submits an additional capacity request, ensuring that capacity is reviewed and approved before changes land. This reduced manual review load and prevented pipeline changes from silently overshooting allocated resources.
• Defined and introduced new Virtual Resource Types (VRTs) and associated rate cards used to standardize how compute, storage, and other infra components are costed for ML Models and Training Data Infrastructure (TDI) workloads.

Golang Advanced

• Designed and led multiple phases of Heroku's Router 2.0, a core component of the proxy layer that manages connection routing for millions of applications hosted on Heroku Common Runtime.
• Led the Connection Handling and Retrying phase, creating a mechanism to detect and quarantine unresponsive dynos (individual instances running customer applications) and reroute connections to healthy instances. This minimized downtime and improved fault tolerance, ensuring consistent performance for customers.
• Spearheaded support for Session Affinity and WebSocket features, enabling customer applications to maintain persistent, stateful connections.
• Directed the design and deployment of inbound connection throttling, enforcing a 20K concurrent connection limit for an app per router instance, achieving over $200K in annual cost savings for Heroku.
• Built and maintained dashboards in Honeycomb for key metrics monitoring, with alerting to proactively address performance issues. Used Terraform infrastructure-as-code to configure and deploy monitoring and alerting consistently across environments, enabling rapid responses to critical issues and enhancing reliability.
• Played a key role in upgrading the PostgreSQL database that manages metadata for all customer applications, implementing strategies for seamless data migration with zero downtime.
• Performed in-depth performance profiling, including heap and mutex profiling, to identify bottlenecks in Router 2.0 under various load conditions. Optimized memory usage and reduced contention points, improving efficiency, latency and scalability.
